And like most lifetime guarantees, the merchandise has outlived the company that backed it by quite some time.

This reminds me:
Our Office took delivery of its first ever dishwasher for the staff room.
As we held many conferences and workshops with attendance often in excess of 100, it was more of a necessity than an indulgence
It arrived in a large cardboard box, and there it remained as, soon after it's arrival, our office building underwent a major revamp, both structural and cosmetic.
Some two years elapsed before our "brand new" dishwasher was finally installed.
However, there was a hitch. It turned out to be faulty!
So, back to the supplier.
But wait! With all the refurbishment related delay, two years had passed and...the warranty had expired!
What a mess...and not just under the dishwasher!
