We design handheld battery-powered equipment and have a battery expert on staff, but even so we contract with battery designers and builders for any new project. The energy density in lithium batteries is so high that the risk of making a wiring error or an improper charging/discharging decision is not worth taking. I would not use any do-it-yourself lithium battery.
