I have been concerned about dust/dirt getting into the Flash Drive USB socket on my 8X. I have left a standard size memory stick in, but the way it is angled, I am afraid I will "snag" it somehow and possibly have the memory stick break off in the socket.
Anyway, I installed a "Mini" memory stick (See pic in the attachment). I just leave it in all the time. I don't use it for a backup of the 8X or any file transfers. Its sole purpose is to act as a cover for the USB socket.

Here is something safer... use a soft earplug thats used for killing off sound. ;)
Our local drug store sells them at $1.50 for 4. ;)

Personally, I always keep a cover on my 8X when not in use and monthly cleanings along with a fast pass with a tiny battery powered vaccuum keep mine clean as new.

I always cover my 8X also bought from an accordion shop and then had a local shop embroider the logo

That’s super cool Pbraido! I don’t cover the Fr4 because it’s the one I play all the time. Otherwise I use my 2€ tea towels. They remind me of good times. The kids can fight over them!

The only one I don’t seem to have covered here is the Corona II which I hear have hit $1000 in some markets. Crazy, but I’m not selling it. My kids can fight over it and sell it for $3000 when I kick the bucket.

the usb socket with continuous in and out of the usb stick could cause the spring pins to become weak. I would be concerned with corrosion over dust when accordion is in different environments.

the wear of USB port is very Valid ..........I remember a top Yamaha demonstrator giving me this tip buy ,a short usb to usb lead and keep that connected to the USB on the Yamaha keyboard that way you have very little chance of wearing out the USB socket built into the Yamaha keyboard .This tip is not easily applied to the Roland digital accordions , but works fine on my Yamaha psr3000 keyboard and also my special semi module of the psr 3000 which i use on my small gigs .the keyboard and module are a electronic image of each other so i often use the USB sticks in either instrument ...............plus I have several backups of all the stuff saved on USB sticks .
This tip may not be relevant to most digi accordion players ..................but it is perfect for my situation .........Just Sayin !!
Another little tip keep all your back ups up to date ...............it is worth doing this all the time ....you can never tell when a USB stick will suddenly fail !!..........I speak from Experience !! ha ha

Roxy’s music always demonstrated the FR4x with the usb extension. What I understand not all usb sticks are the same size. They do have a tolerance when they are made. Stick with one that works the best.
