actually i like that applying intelligence to shift selectors
and then occasional minimalist implementation and
tailoring of an accordion design to specific needs
of a genre or discipline is alive and well in our world.
while i tend to long for the good old days that seem
sweeter the deeper into history they slip, as a confirmed
empiric and tinkerer i must admit and appreciate thoughtful
improvements that hit me between the eyes despite my
reactionary avoidance
it may take me awhile... i mean 40 years on from the despised
DISCO era and here i am playing quite a few BeeGee's songs
and my Oktoberfest setlist is much improved with the addition
of several ABBA songs that my middle aged American audiences
seem to still love and can get them up and onto the dance Floor and
singing along with wild abandon

I actually loved disco, but now find us in the dreaded hiphop era, not to mention whiny pop. I'll probably be dead in 40 years so I'm safe from playing Bruno Mars.
On automotive AM/FM analog radios pre-1980: there were typically 5 or 6 mechanical push buttons for the user to select a preset radio station; but if the user wanted a particular button to instead select a different station, he could manually tune to that station and then PULL outward on the button which effectively, manually, “programmed” that button to the new station.
I would like to see a palm switch or chin switch designed to do that sort of behavior—so that it is not just hardwired to a specific set of reeds, but instead allowed the user to “program” it to be whatever reed combination he needed to switch into for the particular piece of music he was planning to play.
Yes I guess that would be the digital solution. Still, I think it should be possible to design a mechanical system to do this on an acoustic accordion.
If you compare the mechanics involved in pretuning car radio stations with accordion coupler switches, it becomes evident why the car solution may be more difficult on an accordion

Could be. Both have very tight tolerances. But the automotive environment—shock, vibration, temperature range—is much more severe, while the number of moving mechanisms is probably worse on the accordion. My engineering background is in systems and electronics, not mechanical. Still, Beltuna could add to their list of patents if they could sort out a method!

Maybe the next Beltuna model will already have a method... They are moving towards having everything that's mechanical replaced by electromechanic alternatives. Pallets on the bass side are already electromechanic. Registers is a logical next step....
