I followed a pop-up video following one of Dingo's excellent video posts, wherein the presenter (Robert Earl Keen), mentioned using a cell phone app that provides instrumental background (foreground?) music for common/popular (In the US, anyway) songs, to which he would noodle along to. I searched around the I-net without success and was wondering if anybody can recommend one? REK mentioned that the app would continually roll the tune around and around until you quit it. This sounds like a good way to develop harmonizing/background/fill skills, which is one of my current objectives.
When I mentioned "foreground" above, I'm looking to improve MY background skills so want the app to play the melody and perhaps include short breaks for me to insert a solo.
Thanks

MuseScore. You will find many, if not most tunes you are looking for. But, I hate to tell you dear Waldo, that you will not find exactly what you are looking for. You still have to take some responsibility to chef up the exact arrangement that you want. Like playing accordion, there are no easy answers. But with MuseScore you have everything you need to make what you want. I’m sure there are others too.

Thanks Tom, I did give it a visit when searching but shied away due to the 76% positive rating. It also looked more complicated than I needed.
I'm not great at learning new program/systems (I'm a victim of the LA school system) as I'd rather spend the time playing. I don't want to add my playing to the program, just have something to play along to.
I will, however, check it out in more depth.

Good luck to you Waldo. It’s really not that bad. Just search on a song you like and hit play. If you just want to make a simple backing track based on chords, then you might want to try out JJazzLab. Sorry dear Waldo, most worthwhile systems are not easy, they take some investment. Otherwise everyone would play accordion and I would be out of a job.

does it need to be an app ?

the time tested musicians tool that allows
you to quickly, easily, set up a chord progression
and style and layout and jam along with it is
the software "Band in a Box" from PG nusic
(Peter Gannon) and which has been around for us
since the 8084 PC days, and constantly improved
since then
