I just got a new FR-7b :b

The FBC-7 is built like an M1 Abrams and weighs about the same :x . My plan is to leave it at home as much as I can, but then I wont have MIDI connections.

Then I saw the AMC-4 Audio/MIDI cable. The problem is that its hard to find. And if I can find it, it likely costs me my first born. Also, its one more thing to carry around.

Is the pin-out of this cable available? Im thinking of mutilating the FR-7b, adding the MIDI connectors to the accordion itself.

Please Don't ;
I make a screw in (17) pin adapter for the FR- 5, 7, 7x that you can use without an alteration of the "V" accordion .

Send a PA ??

Id like to report that my new FR-7 now sports a MIDI OUT port. :b

Internally, the wires are ready for a MIDI IN port. But I dont think I will ever use it.

Its a crime Roland didnt include this in the first place.

Next project: 24V DC port, and in situ battery charging port without the FBC-7.

Really neat work!
I used an 'Elane' adapter to overcome the foot-board/midi cable problem but, while you were able to connect a standard midi cable with it, it was still 'clunky', large & heavy.
Your method is as tidy as the X models (excepting the still encumbered 7X), a big improvement over the Elane.

Thanks, TW, for your kind words.

I was actually inspired by Roland AMC-4 cable. When looking at the on-line photos of the cable, I suspected that it didnt have any active electronic component. Later, learning that Jim D (see post above) and Elane offered the adapter confirmed my suspicion. All I needed was the pin-out of the AMC-4. Once it was known, the execution would then be purely mechanical.

I didnt really find the pin-out of the cable. Instead, I was able to locate the schematics of FR-7. After some trial and error, I found the wires to splice for the MIDI ports.

I am also working on adding a 24VDC port, and charging ports. The charging takes 3 wires: positive, negative, and one for the temperature sensor. Today I completed the prototype of the harness, which would electrically sit between the battery and the accordion.

Now Ill have to figure out how to put the harness inside the accordion.

Wish me luck. :)
