I came across this accordion on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-BOR...262?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f9dfa636

Price seems a little crazy and I assume its a typo, but what would the price be that she meant? Is there any accordion that has ever gone for money like this? I was thinking not even a world renown players own accordion, like say van Dammes excelsior, or Magnantes, could fetch anywhere near this kind of money.

I'm not sure how much anyone who spells accordion wrongly really knows about the instrument anyway ;)

The most expensive box I've played was worth about £17,000 I think, and I wasn't overly impressed. Scared, though!

perhaps a typo, and perhaps someone thinks they have a real pot of gold. After all you can ask anything you want for something, but ultimately someone must be willing to pay for it...

my hope is that it is a typo and they expected $125.00 (or perhaps 12.50 :) )
Honestly I think they will have a hard time selling it, but I have seen similar on ebay go for about $250 on a good day.

Maybe it's stuffed full of drugs and there is an intended buyer who knows the reason for the price tag?

Of course we speculate it's a typo... but they had to make two typos - the start price and the buy-it-now...
It should've be in my occasional 'Your havin' a larrrff...' list.

I kwno what you mean..

Hmmm. Using the accordion as a "mule" That's funny.

I guess I will have to see how this auction unfolds. Oh and Don no has bid yet because they are all waiting until the last second so they can "snipe" it. A deal like this you just cannot pass up. Anyone familiar with this brand?

Accordion models the same make as this one showed up here (US) in the 60's with the names "Bellini" and "Del La Rosa" applied. Two reed models in good shape can fetch $300 to $350 and Three reed models $500 to $600.

For a fun read, find the novel, Accordion Crimes. I read it years ago. The novel chronicles one green hand-made accordion from the time it was made in Italy until its final demise in Chicago (I think). Each time it changed hands, ended up on a pawn shop and was re-purchased, there is another story of another owner. No, it wasnt used as a mule for drug smuggling but there might have been something else inside that would surprise you. {}

Sorry I dont remember the authors name. If its cold where you are and youd like a good read, give it a try!

Here is another theory- they get plenty of exposure they wouldn't have gotten, through people spotting it and discussing it on forums like this. Then they either get loads of interest via email &/or 'watchers'.
If it doesn't go in an exchange of email at a reasonable price, they relist it, no additional fee, at the 'right' price and all those watchers are informed via the 'An Item You Were Watching...' system. Clever?
May even try it myself.. :D Have to be a 'Free listing' offer though.

I put in on my watch list so we'll see what happens. Looks like there are 5 people watching this- I wonder if they are all from here?
