Sounds like you probably got a rather cheap small accordion. Dont be disappointed when the tuning job turns out to cost more than what you paid for the instrument. Just consider that labour is expensive and tuning even a 48 bass accordion is a lot of work, especially when there is also valve work involved.

Hi Stuart,

Try googling Geoff Holter in Darlington, although he may now have retired. His website was taken down a few years ago, but you might get a mobile or other number for him.

Alternatively, try asking somebody like Rich Tone Music in Broadfield Road, Sheffield, if they know anybody local who tunes/repairs accordions. Ive dealt with them before for guitars and accessories, and they seem to be pretty decent people.

I live in Scotland so dont really know of any repairers/tuners in your area.

A full service on your accordion, including a re-tune, will likely cost between £300-£600. As Paul De Bra says accordions are fairly labour intensive due to the intricacies of all the bits and pieces that make them work.

Good luck!

Hi Stuart,

There is little that I can usefully add to the comments above, but I am curious to know the make, model and age of your accordion.

Kind Regards,

Stephen.

You could try Paul Flannery in Cleckheaton, near Huddersfield. He is a professional tuner and used to do all the work for 'the music room, before they closed down. google paul flannery music
