It's just basically easier to make one yourself now-a-days.

Do you mean a technician (ie, person) or an instrument (ie tool)?
If an instrument, many here use an app on their iPhone.
With the price of food and housing in the UK these days it's quite an expensive venture. And you'll have to wait at least 16 years before the kid can start doing tuning work.
Sorry for the confusion, yes I meant a technician.
