I wonder if it would be useful, particularly for newcomers like myself, to list all the genres of music of accordion music along with a typical example of a piece/song and registration.
Just in case I am not making myself clear this would be, I think, an obvious example

Genre: French Cafe
Song; Sous le ciel de Paris
Registration: Musette

It would be interesting for others to add to this so that a list can be formed and we would all be able to choose what we like the most and find suitable pieces/songs to practice. Often, I hear a pieces/songs and think "I like that" and would like to know where it sits in the whole scheme of things.

Obviously I don't know much... I never heard the term "French Cafe" even though I have played Sous le ciel de Paris iike most accordion players I presume.
What I often find surprising is how nice some well-known pieces can sound when a non-traditional registration is used. For instance: a lot of the convertor instruments have no tremolo but can do a song like Sous le ciel de Paris quite well.
So while indeed this intended list can be very useful we may not easily reach consensus on registration to go with a genre or even an individual song.

Well, I'll be the first to go.

Genres in order: Jazz, Classical, French Cafe, Easy Listening ( cop-out! )
Registrations: I can only say with certainty musette for the third clip.

Tell me I'm wrong. Actually I was only thinking of the accordion being played solo, not with other instruments as many of us may not have the opportunity of playing with other instruments. However, you have broadened the post significantly.

It will be interesting to hear others' thoughts as there are surely many more knowledgable members!
