Hi folks, apologies for just coming on here and asking about this find from my dad's garage, I believe it belonged to my grandfather who could play, looks a bit rough but still makes a noise when moved, is it a garden bar decoration or should I do something with it?
There does not seem to be many resources for these, hence why I am bothering you good folks,
This accordion appears to be well-preserved on the outside. It may be a gem. Sadly, it may also be completely corroded/rusted on the inside. If the corrosion on the accordion is an indication of the internal condition then it is not good news.
If you are daring I suggest you remove the screws that hold the treble side onto the bellows, open up the accordion and take some pictures of the inside. They will show whether everything might be ok (leathers flat against the reed plates, no signs of rust) or whether this is just good as a bar ornament. (There may still be rust under the leathers, but that's the next thing to check.)
If you are not so daring, take the accordion to an accordion repairer for an expert opinion.
