I would say that the more that a song is associated with lyrics, the less it would be able to "cut it". Silent Night works well, and I really believe that most others will too (as said), but not all.

For example, if you don't have lyrics with songs like "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" or "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas", the experience is quite hollow.
