this is a short video of a group of people on an italian accordion factory tour

quite short and in italian but think there may be the odd thing of interest to some :ugeek:

Thanks for finding that one.
It's the make of my accordion so now I feel I've been to the factory, albeit virtually with a group of Chinese tourists.
Cheers {}

Yeah, I`ve seen the Pigini one but funny that a Ballone Burini one should turn up as the forum has an owner of one (the other Acc forum didn`t) . there`s a link to a Vignoni tour as well (no Vignoni owners here as far as I know) ..

why is that do you think - are they rare in uk? :?

Probably so - Glenn is in the netherlands, I`ve heard of Ballone but never seen one or known anyone who's owned one (up til now) and the other forum was almost Xenophobically British :oops: (to the point of Jarvo and me getting a skelping off Bill Young for talking about German Polkas)

I have a Vignoni Ravel IIBX. {}

As it was filmed in Oct 2012, I wonder if my Accordion was in the workshop at that time. I took delivery at the beginning of January 2013.

One of the things that I found interesting was that they seem to make most of the parts in house including straps and bellows.

Looks like a handsome accordion.
What does the X stand for?
I can see a IIB in their catalogue?

The main differences are that:-

(i) The BX has 2 sets of reed in cassotto whereas the IIB has none
(ii) The BX has 11 treble registers whereas the IIB has 9
(iii) The BX has Imitation of Hand Made Type (description form their website) reeds, whereas the IIb has Dural Reeds

Although I did specify a different reed make/type form their standard ones as it was being built from scratch.

Seems odd that the lower B box has "Imitation of hand made reeds" (Which I assume means Tipo-a-mano) whereas the BX has just basic Durals (which are machine reeds and only one step up from the ones they sell the chinese) , saying that though, Pigini use Super-Durals (1/2 a step up from durals) in very expensive boxes but they DO set them up really well.

Actually I think its the other way round....The IIBX has Imitation of hand made reeds and the IIB has Durals

Yep, got it now - my brain is wired differently to most peoples I read it the other way (that`s my excuse for today) I`m usually only Musically dyslexic, not alphabetically ...

Well..... as wot Shakespeare wrote............ IIB or not IIB

Why that particular model has the X as a suffix is a mystery to me :?

Cos without the X it would be suffi ?............and what on earth is an imitation hand made reed ? They are either machine made or hand made ....if the claim is that the imitation of handmade reeds are as good as the handmade reeds made by hand but instead are made by machine instead of by hand then that is saying that handmade reeds are only as good as machine made reeds which make reeds as good as those made by hand which turn out to be a waste of time and effort especially as the machine just blew by you and produced ten machine made hand made imitations that are just as good as your one reed that you made by hand..........oh and on the weekends the machine produces dodgy Rolexes......... :mrgreen: .

I was with you up until Cos without the X it would be suffi ....... :?

But the reeds would still be an imitation :hb

I think the Imitation Hand made reed is a rather inaccurate translation from the Italian.

The website description of the reeds, in Italian, is Voci tipo a mano.

Voci tipo a mano..........hmmm that somehow does not sound to be a right translation ....Unless of course the Fiat Tipo was an imitation car !...........oh dear, never mind....

What exactly is a hand-made reed anyway.
I can't imagine someone with the tin snips cutting bits of metal from a sheet and fiddling around with them until they are exactly as they want them.
I assume hand-made uses machine blanks which are "fashioned" in some way by hand.
Would like to see a video of the difference.
