I dont know if the song was written for accordion accompaniment... but the accordion was made for this song IMHO.

Lovely tone on this instrument - I dont recognise it; what make/model is it?
 
Indeed a great sound and an great song for the accordion.
Think I'd tackle it differently than your link but got to admire his library.
 
It is a great song for accordion.
I don't really care for the arrangement that he is playing of it. (I prefer the simpler arrangement, but to each their own)
The arrangement that he is playing is available in the Palmer-Hughes Accordion Course book 7.
The one that I play and like is in the Everybody's Favorite Accordion Pieces book 26.

I do agree that the accordion he is playing has a lovely tone. I am thinking it is an older italo american with LMMM tuning. (but that is just a guess)

Y, Ive heard arrangements Ive preferred but I was more interested in the accordion make... and it was an expedient way to show it.
And Ive got an old copy of that book somewhere.. :tup: not sure if its book 26 without digging but its unlikely to have changed from the earlier books.
 
It's a beauty. Great looks, and great tone. Not seen that style before.

I've loved this song since I first heard it in a video @NickC posted with accordion and guitar. I haven't figured out how to link to past posts yet, or I would do that, since it was quite lovely. I like all of these renditions too, but something about the simple one just gets to me. I love the switching from minor to major and back again.

Thanks for the mention. I put that video together as a demo to hear how it would sound as a duo arrangement. It was difficult to play the more rubato sections since I played the guitar part first and had to follow the timing when I overdubbed the accordion. So, it doesn't flow as well as I would have liked.

 
It's so interesting to me what a difference tempo, style, musician's expression/style adds to a piece. In that Liberty Bellows demo @Glug posted, it sounds much happier and I get the feeling the person (or their love) is probably going to get back to Sorrento one day. With the version from @NickC, I get the feeling it probably isn't going to happen, no matter how much you wish it would. I think that's why it gets to me...
