I just want to be able to scan my sheet music into my ipad, give each piece a title,
file it in alphabetical order, retrieve it and play it individually , or create a set list, and retrieve the set list and play it in order.
Forscore is far too complex for this, the menus are difficult to access, and impossible to understand and it can do lots that I do not need.
Does anyone know of a much simpler app suitable for ipad please.

Hi Colin,

Songbook App might do you. (NOT Songbook Pro, that's a completely different app). Songbook lets you store sheet music as PDF files, puts them into alpha order, lets you bring one to the screen with a keypress. You can also make a setlist by selecting your songs, but he free version only allows you one setlist with 15 songs. However in the free version you can store as many pdfs as you like (not limited to 15) so you might not need to make a setlist or maybe can keep changing your one setlist. The paid version is a (expensive) subscription.

Thanks, I will try that

Losthobos, do you use googledrive?
Cm
Yes....works superb for me. You can set up several folders with a set list in each....seems to use alphabetical as listing format so you may need to rename songs in the order you wish..
IE A Smoke on the Water
A1 my funny valentine
A2 smile
Etc.......
Id advise saving all files as pdf before uploading as keeps the super compatible with other systems....
If I'm doing a "singalong" type gig I put the songsheets in another folder and link that to a QR code.....then when punters arrive they scan QR code and the songsheets are then opened on their phones/tablets
Wonders of modern living.....until the internet is down or no network at least
Hope that helps

I'm impressed Losthobos you are da Man !!! . When I was gigging with my singer all pre covid we had paper song sheets double sided with all the popular sing a long . words ....it really worked well I still have them ha ha .
We even had all Our Christmas carol songs and xmas medleys...............on Green..coloured paper !!! ha ha
I remember many years ago now ,we where booked to play at a very posh retirement home at Blakeney North Norfolk in the Runup to the christmas Festivities
We asked the staff to hand out the Xmas .carol song sheets ! just as we started the medley an Elderly 95yr old lady resident shouted out STOP!! !!!!
Young man she said loudly There is a spelling mistake ............... (she was a retired head mistress )....in all the years we had used the song sheets we had never noticed and certainly no one in our Audiences had said anything
I had typed in away in a Manager.....................it should have been of course Manger !!
Ya can't make this stuff up ...it's all true
question ....did we correct and reprint ..............of course not!!................but at the end of some of the sessions sometimes we used to say there is a small spelling mistake can anyone spot it !!!.....................i cannot remember anyone spotting it !!!
Happy memories of another time and place !!!.....................long ago !!

I am also a big fan of Songbook Pro. No need to have access to internet and on top of it, I use it to set the UPG or set on the 8X and rhythm on the BK-7x with nothing more than the selection of a song.

I can create lists of all music alphabetically or specific named lists that contains the songs of my choice. It does that and accepts the input of bluetooth pedals for page or song changes with the press of of a pedal.

I use Mobile Sheets.
does everything you ask for, is easy to use and available for both Android and Apple.
Also far cheaper!!!

I’m

Thanks pipemajor but possibly too complex for me.
I can't see how it could be simpler.
I have an old tablet I use just for my music.
I scan/download onto a usb memory stick, put it in the tablet and copy into Mobile sheets.
It lists all your music in alphabetical order and you have the option to make your own sets ,collections etc.
So far I have over 1500 tunes on there and around 12 diferent collections for the different genres.
I'm 85 with no particular computer abilities, so I think anyone can manage it

Sounds good pipemajor, a little more detail please, what program do you use to scan into the memory stick

I don't use a program.
I have a cheap and cheerful Epson printer which scans paper music sheets to my computer (windows 10), or I download from wherever I find music I like and copy to a usb stick.

Songbook Pro has a feature called Photo2PDF... take a picture and it crops & centers it to a perfect rectangle, whitens the page if it's old and yellowed and assembles up to 24 pages in to 1 PDF.

I have the same scanner set up but hp, unfortunately my windows10 computer, which cannot be converted to 11 seems to be dying.

Yes , I like this feature but this app does seem to be very complicated.

I am not sure of the price differences, but though a couple of the things to do are not intuitive, yet once you do the process once, it is very simple, and I like simple. :)

The way that I Song book, pretty much the complete process... first I tell it to accept input from the BT pedals, which of the 4 buttons executes page forward, page back, song forward and song back. This is done once and never again.

I then use the camera of the iPad, open songbook, select picture to PDF, take a picture, if there are 2 pages, I take 2 pictures... then give the file the name of the song and save it. The song is automatically entered into the list of all songs. If I already have the PDF, I move it to the Songbook directory, once there, I open the app, and import all the songs that are not imported by clicking on the right button on the main page... actually takes longer to type than do.

To see the song, I tap on that song, it opens. To close it, I tape on the "X" top left side of the page, app returns to whatever list you selected (in this theoretical case, the list of all songs).

The are only 2 other things that I do... program to change settings on BK and 8X and make specific lists.

Lists are easy.. (open list of lists, click on "new..." once a list is created, give it a name, click on the green "+" symbol beside any song to add it, click on done when ready.

The last thing I won't mention how (to add the info on how to change programming), it would take about 10 minutes in a video to explain it, but it is far from hard... the biggest skill one needs is how to count from 0 to 128 and enter the right numbers... lol

It may well be worth it to look at other options, but I like all that the Songbook app does for me.

Speaking of digital sheet music, what do you guys recommend for the size of the tablet? Now I have my songs on standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Is a 12 inch diagonal tablet big enough or ?????? Thanks!

I have a 12.9" iPad Pro, and a standard 9.7" one. The 12.9" is great for practising at home, but I find it a bit cumbersome to use out at performances. Also it would be expensive to replace if dropped or stolen. I find the 9.7" good for gigging, big enough for me to read and small enough to slip in a bag, and it fits on a Hercules tablet stand nicely.
