What's Your "Bust Out" Tune?

Oh I love to hear that Charles Nunzio was your teacher! I never met the man but conversed with him through a mutual friend many times.  He was an older man then and not playing much at all.  When he passed away my friend had to find a place for all of his accordions.  He was such a gentleman and an incredible teacher from what I've heard.

Hey Mike, I hadn't heard of For Sephora, so I checked out some YouTubes of it. Nice!

Are you playing this as a solo piece? If so, what are you doing with your LH? I never have figured out a good LH pattern for that sort of bossa nova kind of feel.

As to bust out tune depends who's listening and for how long.... ?

Purists always go on about how supposedly inferior the accordion is to an actual bandoneon for tango. But, though I do love the sound of a bandoneon, if you have a good sense of rhythm, tango sounds fabulous on the LM setting of a PA or CBA. The basses are fantastic for that tango vamp. So when it comes to "bust-out" music, if I have an LMM with me, it's usually "La Cumparsita" or another vrrrrumph! tango. It always brings down the house. People really respond with delight to an accordion playing tango.

If I have a middle-reed only accordion, MM or MMM, I usually go for a musette waltz, another substrain that people really respond to from an accordion. Eastern European waltzes--gypsy, Russian, etc.--go over very well also.

Currently, I'd probably pull out All the way to Galway and/or Ashley's Ride for this. If there's suitable time they make a nice medley. Skye Boat song is another likely one.

I've got other songs I play, but that's what I have in the memory bank, rather than on paper. Not sure I'll get it committed to memory, but one I'm working on is My Name. That's a fun one, at least for me, since it fits my voice well.

The tune I would "bust out" with would be very dependent on what time in my life I would be asked. As a young child I would be asked to play something and it was usually a Czech folk song. In the conservatory days it would be Chopin's Fantasy Impromtu, Bach's Concerto Italiano or any of several songs from Lizst. Entering the electronic accordion age, that it would be Trieste Overture or something from Strauss. Today, probably Czardas or Jealousy.
