Due to a general lack of faith in my playing ability and progress I’ve been away from playing for almost a year now. After months of looking at my instrument and feeling tired and unmotivated I’ve found it in myself to want to play again. Keyboard exercises would be appreciated if you have them so I can help bring my dexterity back.

Find a piece of music that gets you excited and just enjoy the feeling. After that, go for the exercises or better yet, find a good teacher.

I like Zevy’s approach more than hust jumping into scales and exercises for someone who wants to return to playing after some time away. Let the selection be something interesting, or nostalgic, slow-tempo, and somerhing that gives you a good feeling when you play it. You’ll know when to start the technical exercises.

I’ve been there a few times, tried both approaches, and what I just described is much more comfortable.
