Hey folks,

As a new player on a Russian bayan, I am already considering what box I might pick up next, as I imagine is common among enthusiastic players. One accordion that comes up often in a search for still-pretty-affordable CBAs is the East German Weltmeister Grandina (and its associated Royal Standard and Barcarole cousins). Two smaller instruments from that same rough period are the Weltmeister Fionetta and Toccata.

The Fionetta seems to come in 5 row b-griff LM or MM with 96 bass. See this 6-row example on Reverb. My question regarding it is, with no bass register switches, what is the likely voicing on the bass notes for the first two rows?

The Toccata came in PA and CBA forms and seems to have stopped production only recently. They were 60 bass converters. My question here is whether the melody bass layout is the Russian style or the international style regarding orientation. I thought I had seen a button layout chart somewhere before, but I can't find it now.

I know these aren't exactly dream instruments, but they're of interest to me as something I would be comfortable standing with while playing.

Thanks,
Zach

I play c systems with converter a mid range cba pigini.
From my experience at looking at instruments second hande in particular i have found The free base sections are virtuslly unplayable. Button movrment difficult not smooth. Whats works for stradella its not The same as for freebbase as i think u require nice smooth action etc etc. I have tried a few second hand converters and i couldnt play them. Perhaps only say pigini or bugari have The formula. That is my amature opinion.

Thanks Godgie. I'll definitely hold out on the freebass buy for awhile. I guess it doesn't make sense to hobble myself with something cheap if I'm going to try a whole new keyboard layout.
