And heres a link to Weird Al playing the accordion. I have no idea why the tempo was so fast for Beer Barrel Polka.




When I was just starting out playing my instructor would stop me immediately whenever I slurred notes. He wanted distinct staccato notes. He would not have accepted Weird Als rendition of Beer Barrel Polka.

And this kind of playing really irks me and I feel it detracts tremendously from what the accordion can sound like. I realize Weird Al is a parody song writer and this is all an act, but still, on many levels it just bothers me that this type of playing is the only accordion that many will see.

And thus the jokes will keep coming.

Rapper named Logic says in his wonderful album “Everybody”, “make music like there are no GRAMMYs.”
Today’s GRAMMYs are completely a social media byproduct and don’t represent the state of music in the least. Weird Al, on the other hand, probably shouldn’t be taken to task for being a great childrens’ entertainer. I used to be on the NARAS Board of Governors, and I don’t even watch the show anymore.
Thomas N., your point is well taken, though. The Vast Wasteland, or television, is influential, but illusory. Lawrence Welk and Weird Al? Or Flaco Jimenez and Danny Federici?
