Back on the old board there was a discussion that included a recommended temperature for wax melting. What temperature do you find works best? Melts the wax and it keeps fluid long enough to flow over the reeds...

Thank you, Tom

I use a small egg poacher to melt the wax over hot water, once its all melted I remove the pan from the heat but I keep popping it back on the stove every 15 minutes or so. No idea what the actual temperature is but it works well enough for me.

I find that 210 to 220 fahrenheit or 98 to 105 celsius works well for me. JIM D.

Thanks! Interesting wax tool, there, Tall! Got any more pictures of it in action? Thanks, Tom

No pics of it in action as such Im afraid. The tool was made by a melodeon.net member who used to sell them on ebay. Pictures show the whole tool and a close up of the business end. The last picture shows the first reed plates I ever waxed in, a bit messy but it takes a fair bit of practise to do it quickly and cleanly.

Pete.

Nice, thanks!

Many of us use a Soldering iron and Charlie Marshalls Wax sticks - I`ve been getting quite Professional looking results doing this but of course, you can`t beat the real tools ..

Charlie sells almost everything to do the job and the service is second to none (a lot of Melnetters are fettlers too and Charlie`s store of Melodeon and Accordion bits is a godsend)

there is an interesting youtube video of Charlie marshall (see my posting re accordion spares) waxing reeds. youtube 'reed waxing made easy' should bring it up
