:)  Yup, that's who I am today! Checking in from the Detroit, Michigan area. I happened upon a great condition 90's-00's era Gus Zoppi LM 41/120 early this year and dove right in. Learned a lot about the historical accordion scene in Detroit from old documents/sheet music in cases and nameplate badges on old accordions while browsing pawn shops extensively across the Metro area. I'm only 5 minutes' drive from Castiglione showroom too! I've been learning some simpler folk tunes, translating jazz standards to the left hand bass on accordion, and just playing around like its a bagpipe sometimes (amazing grace, etc). Glad to have found this forum with GLOBAL sources of inspiration and information. Cheers, and good playing to you all!

Welcome! Definitely a good bunch here.
And good for you for digging into Detroit’s golden history with the accordion.
You may have heard that Castiglione’s will be closing after they sell their remaining stock. Sad.

Oh, no I hadn't. I thought I'd read somewhere that one of the older family members recently passed (John?). Sad news indeed. Wish them all well, what a legacy.

Hello squeezemeasong,

A warm welcome to the forum. I hope to read many accounts of your progress over time.

As"squeezemeasong" is quite a cumbersome epithet, would it be possible for you to provide a more manageable form of address?

Kind Regards,

Stephen.

Stephen,

"As"squeezemeasong" is quite a cumbersome epithet, would it be possible for you to provide a more manageable form of address?"

How about abbreviating it to  "SMS"? :)

Hi Dingo,

You are right, of course, I could use the abbreviation you suggest, but I'm not sure if there are any other connotations pertaining to those initials.

Don't look all innocent and pretend you don't know what I mean.

Kind Regards,

Stephen.

Stephen,
I'm sure I don't know what you mean.
Of course, "SMS" coincidentally stands for "short messaging service " as in text messaging, if that's what you mean?
So what? It's purely coincidental and has no ulterior significance. But, if it concerns you, by all means, don't use it  :)

I like it as is. Reminds me of a poem...

Squeeze me a song of a lad that is gone,
Say, could that I be that lad?
Merry of soul, he played all the day.
It didn't sound half bad.

Jeff,
Could this be the poem you're thinking of?

Yes, but I'm quoting the lesser-known, original version that Stevenson wrote, which was of course entirely accordion-related. His agent suggested that he revise it prior to publication, since accordion poetry wasn't selling well and wistful meditations on lost youth were starting to become all the rage.

As I recall, it continued...

Bellows and reeds, buttons and keys,
polkas and jigs and reels.
He practiced hard, in his front yard,
then got a record deal.

RLS went on to write other works about accordion playing, such as "The Accordion Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and ""Two-Beats per Measure Island", before his agent finally quit in frustration.

Hi Dingo,

Apart from the possibility of there being rude connotations, there is also the impersonal nature of using initials to address a fellow member to consider. This matter needs further consideration.

Hi Jeff,

My better half is very keen on poetry, so I will draw her attention to this one. Brenda recites poetry at our Folk Club, but there is no telling when (or if) it will open again.

Best Wishes To You Both,

Stephen.

I looked and there's no way to change your name in the User CP.

Hello S.M.A.S.

Thank you for your response.

I thought that you could alter or add things to your personal details, but I could very well be wrong.

If you cannot alter your user name, may I suggest that you simply sign off your posts using your given name? People here are quick on the uptake, so it won't take them long to get used to it.

Kind Regards,

Stephen.
