Does anyone have any experience with The Accordion Shop, either Sunningdale or Rochdale, for accordion repairs and/or tuning? I once visited the Sunningdale shop many years ago but that was just for a browse around.

Pretty sure Alan Young on the Isle of Wight does their repairs for them..
Cut out the middle man... ?

Ah... I hadn't realised that they don't do their own repairs. It appears there's another guy in Wales who also does repairs for them too.

Hi
George Whitfield in Wales does repairs and has a very interesting website.
I’ve used Gordon Patullo for tuning/repairs and found him to be first rate. Examples of his work can be found on Facebook.

I was very happy with work done by S W Accordions.
Basil B is an honest man who loves older boxes and bringing them back into use.

Another member – no longer with us – was very complimentary of Alan Young (see above). The IoW could be a problem but I seem to remember he was happy to meet on the mainland to pick up/return.

Martyn White (nr Chelmsford) specialises in melodeons but I believe he does PAs and has an excellent reputation

I've used both Alan and Martyn... Mail to IOW was no issue. Martyn lives near me... Both good... Alan sure knows the workings of accordions inside and out.

I went to the Sunningdale shop about a year ago. They looked over my accordion for me, but I think they are almost exclusively pianos and electronic keyboards now. I think the best place is Allodi. Allodi

A couple of years ago I was actually advised by Peter at the Rochdale shop to take my accordion to Roy Whiteley of www.accordionmagic.com near Knutsford. I have had two accordions repaired and tuned by Roy and have been very happy with them to date. Roy will tune your accordion to your specification and give you a print out of the tuning. This is something that I don't see offered by anyone else.

The Accordion Shop in Sunningdale does indeed do repairs. I have always found their customer service (& price) excellent. I have dealt with them for a while now & I think they are easily the best for quality second-hand, & new accordions & definitely the best for service. They offer good trade-ins of older instruments so you can give them your old accordion as downpayment if you want a change. ?

Re comments on The Accordion Shop and Alan Young. He did do some of the repairs for the shop and was also an independent repairer. Unfortunately he died a few weeks ago and will be very much missed by those who used his services, especially those of us on the Island

Alan was also a mean player....a real savant....he had his demons but I'd never be ashamed to call him my friend....we had some great sessions both with and without accordions...😉
Sadly missed....
His father was a great player too especially on Hammond and his son is also pretty exceptional with that dance music the hipsters dig now...
RIP big boy
