My name is Rob. 32 years old and decided to learn to play the accordion a couple years back. A couple things have motivated me to do so. My mum used to play. Even though I have no recollection of this because it was a long time ago and she cannot play anymore. I did start out on her accordion :) She would be interested in starting again. So, my goal is to eventually play some simple songs together. Or maby get her interested enough to start again - by playing some good songs ofcourse!

I've always had a thing for accordions. Love folk music. Some folk bands from the Netherlands have great accordion players and I've been in awe of the instrument ever since. If you are curious, the first band is WC Experience. They come from the town next over to me. Here is a radio performance if you are curious what they do. Notice the wooden accordion, made for Rene van Rooij - made by Noud Martinali - because that one is hand crafted by one of the last accordion artisans of the Netherlands who stopped to enjoy his old day. Noud was born in the same province, Brabant, but moved to Limburg. My most favorite dutch Folk band, Rowwen Hèze, comes from Limburg and Tren van Enckevort also has an accordion made by Noud. I've always found this relation special. If your curious what they do, here is something. Knowing that connection always made these two bands feel connected and something special.

Apart from music closeby, I've also always been a music lover in the most broad sense and love discovering new stuff. I could show you things for days - and love it when people show me stuff I didn't know yet. Like small niche things like Zydeco for example :)

To end my post, I'll share my pride and joy I suppose :)

That's wraps up my introduction! I hope to make some new friends here and learn more, eventually show my progression (because I'm very much still a beginner). Doing my triads, arpeggios and reverse chords. Practicing keeping a consistent and steady alternating bass. Whilst learning some basic songs like Bella Ciao and some songs from my sheet music learning book.

Welcome Rob!😀
I have some accordion playing Dutch friends.
During the 1950s/60s/70s the Netherlands was quite a focus of accordion activity.
One thing was the availability of A5 sized of intermediate level arrangements for the accordion of interesting tunes of all kinds. Possibly available in second hand music shops around the Netherlands nowadays.😀

Best of luck learning. How do you learn, do you have someone teaching you?

Thanks! I had a teacher in the beginning but had to stop that due to it costing too much. I did some learning on my own but I barely made progression on my own. Then I headed over to AccordionLove and I've been giving that a shot. So far I've been making progression again!
