Wax seems the most common way to attach reeds but do pins have some advantages?
Are pins more commonly used by certain makers - were they commoner in the past if so why?
And any other comments people would like to make.
Thanks

70 to 80 years ago many accordions were made with reeds pinned on their reed blocks over fine kidskin and this practice was replaced with waxed in reeds simply because it was time saving and lowered labor costs. There are still some very fine accordions made with pinned in reeds and tough they are more costly when purchased the replacement of valves and tuning when needed is less costly.

Very Good Point!!!

My Hohners are all, from memory, pinned to the wood (not leather) AND waxed.
