Hello, I have come to accordions late in life and, without boring you, they found me rather than the other way round. I am a total novice but keen to start playing as soon as I repair one of the 3 old wrecks I have acquired (I'm a sucker I know but they are so beautiful!)
All the best.
Percy

Welcome Percycat --- We all have to start at the beginning, so it is a very good place to start.

How about sending us some pictures of your ‘old wrecks’, you never know, you could get some valuable advice from the many knowledgable members on this forum, which may lead to a head start with your repairs.

It would be interesting to hear how you plan to learn to play? Please give us an insight into your progress.

Good luck.

Hi Percy, youre very welcome here. Good to have you on board!
Youve probably found it already, but heres the repair information source thats most recommended here.

The book he sells is more about buying and checking accordions than repair, but its a very interesting read and a good few of us have partly bought it as a thank you to George for his site!
All the best,
Tom

Hi Percy... Welcome on board - Have you played any other instrument? Can you already read music?
If not, still good to start - great for keeping the brain cells in good fettle.
We like someone with a SOH... 'sunny' :)

Thanks to Happy girl, TomBR, JerryPH and Soulsaver for your welcomes and please forgive the tardy reply, I took delivery of a new (refurb) laptop yesterday and I forgot what a nightmare they are to set up especially those that have been made since the turn of the century!
The only one I have a picture of at the moment is this Paolo (I started a thread about it in Accordion Makes & Models - A Paolo Soprani or not? for the reason stated there). I will sort out pics for the other two.
I dont really have a plan but it will be a mixture of study and winging it I suppose, as with other instruments I have tried to play in the past. I can read music but very slowly so that doesnt really count. Thanks Tom I had already found accordionrevival - stunningly good! And Soulsaver it has been sunny here the last 2 days!!

Thanks to all again it makes a huge difference to a newbie.

Hello Percy,

Not wishing to rush into anything, I waited until I was 67 before I picked up an accordion. I would like to tell you that it was easy, and that I am now a superb player, but that would be stretching the truth.

None of that matters, as I enjoy playing at Folk Clubs, Care Homes, Dementia Groups, public parks and beauty spots. My Barber (who has been cutting my hair since 1965 ish) insisted that I play a couple of sessions at his shop. It all went down quite well, and his other customers gave fulsome praise.

My latest "gig" was for a "Rainbow Guides" group, and it was probably the most enjoyable and personally satisfying evenings I have spent in a long time. My Wife (a retired teacher) was in her element, being surrounded by really cute 5 & 6 year old girls.

I hope the above may inspire you in some way. It is never too late to make a difference to people's lives.

A warm welcome to the forum.

Kind Regards,

Stephen.

Welcome Percy! (I have been to Cleethorpes - is it ever sunny ? ;) )

Welcome to the forum, Percycat!
I'm pretty sure it will be a great place for you, to read and learn things from the other accordionists arround the world!
I wish you the best, and enjoy your instrument in your learning process!
