Hello, and thank you for checking this thread out.
I am a new member and joined because I have a question about a Crown accordion my wife received from a family member.
Neither of us play accordion, and it seems like a very nice instrument, but it does have some issues.
I would like to know if you think it would be better for me to try to repair the issues or try to sell it as-is.
- I believe the keys are celluloid. In the picture, you can see several are cracked and a few have pieces missing. I believe that is common with old celluloid material. I had the tuning keys on a ‘50s guitar disintegrate from age and the gas getting trapped in the case.
- Each key works good. All of the buttons also work well. The bellows are in great shape also.
- I googled replacing keys, and I see that it is common. I have done intricate repair work on electric guitars and basses, but have never attempted anything like this. I would hate to damage it by attempting to learn accordion key replacement on it, and failing miserably.
- This is a beautiful instrument and I would love to see it returned to its former glory. I imagine there is a lot of beautiful music still in it.
Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
I live near Chicago and if anyone has recommendations for a good relatively local repair person, that would also be appreciated.
Thank you!
