I was just wondering
what is the most difficult
thing to learn personally
I rank it like this

1hand independence
2bass jumps
3perfecting

1 easiest
3 hadest

the way I see it the
hand independence
you learn first.

the bass jumps lets
you progress from
3 chord polka to 9
chord polka

and the perfecting
sitting in front of a
camera trying to show
a friend or youtube or
whatever and trying to
get it 100%

just wondered

and as for the camera
that's quite a good practice
method as it point's out what
is the part you are struggling
with even if you don't know
you are.

For many the most difficult thing is transforming what is written on the sheet music into music. You can try to "perfect" everything else, and it will still sound like you are reproducing notes, not playing music.

Well, typical accordion music has accents via the bass and fast melodic runs which, when played sort-of leggiero, are reasonably nicely punctuated with harmonic content focused on the beats. Reproducing notes reasonably accurately is really taking you quite a large distance there.

Part of the reason I feel it makes little sense for me trying to compete there. Im just too old to bring something worthwhile to the table there.

Nothing is difficult with practice. Focus on your learning process rather than asking for higher level things. Im pretty sure you will get better at accordion if you focus on it. For example, ive played a lot in the subway busking. I learned how to control my nerves playing in a big audience. This is the most difficult thing for my teacher, and i learned it just practicing the performance. Keep playing, accordian!

P.S: Whats the last song you learned?

accordion, my advice would be to stop worrying about getting 100% perfection as a relative beginner. So doing takes a long time to achieve even with first class hands on tuition aiming a professional 'performance' standard

For most would be accordion players whether playing from the dots or by ear the main 'aim' should be to enjoy what you are doing at whatever stage you are at whilst trying to gradually improve your technique over what for some can be a considerable amount of time. Getting hung up over detail is not the way to achieve enjoyment!

Concentrate on well known tunes eg ones you can hum or whistle . Try playing them from memory/by ear or get hold of a set of dots if you must. It is as or even more important to LISTEN to the way you make it sound than to worry too much abaout details such as you mention as with experience most of these will eventually fall into place and those that don't can often be managed without!

ENJOY and don't AGONISE

Constantly asking questions such as this will not improve your playing. xocd got it right when he told you that patience was the most difficult thing to learn, a commodity which you appear to be short of.

You will (and must) face and overcome the problems which are unique to you. Flitting about like a Bee will gain you nothing, so just knuckle down to whichever practice regime you find most appropriate.

Kind Regards,

Stephen.

oh no like I said
I just wondered. I was
thinking of how to describe
to a friend the levels of difficulty
and then started wondering what
is the most difficult thing to do not
so much in terms of song but in
technique. in terms of my personal
practice Im always knuckling down.

(not having a go just wanted people
to know as this seems to be how people
are seeing my posts although to be fair
I have been asking alot about the bass
and I probably need to word my posts
better.)

thanks

Well, its not like the torrent of consciousness technique is without literary precursors. To quote James Joyce, no less:
I was a Flower of the mountain yes when I put the rose in my hair like the Andalusian girls used or shall I wear a red yes and how he kissed me under the Moorish Wall and I thought well as well him as another and then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me would I yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will Yes.
