Hallo everyone. I have just bought a Hohner Polyphonic 400 and would like to learn to use the melodic bass. It is pretty logical layout, but since I was classically trained accordeonist I am used to have methodical approach to everything I study. Are there known books, methods, technics, tips ...etc for learning melodic bas??

Searching for Mogens Ellegaard and Lars Holm should be useful.
See also 'Free bass resources' thread elsewhere in the forum.
I tried Busso music for the Palmer Hughes volumes but had no response to my emails - maybe export is not their thing.

Thanks a lot mate. I'll try those. Meanwhile I keep on experimenting with the left hand

Pentaprism posted this a while ago Ellegards book:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/73015963/Ellegaard-Comprehensive-Method-for-Free-Bass

1. Mogens Ellegaards book is excellent with good exercises and very structured. Good chromatic fingering theory.
Just keep your eye open sooner or later you will find it.

2.The Borgstrom/Charles series start with with First Steps on the Bassetti the skill leap from this book to book one Progressive Method for Chromatic Free Bass Accordion Volume 1 is considerable. I have not ordered volume two yet. Books can be order from Mr Borgstrom http://www.borgmusic.ca or from Deffner Publications.

3. How to Play the Free Bassetti System Accordion by Flaviano Fogli and Frank Gaviani. Excellent but quite difficult technical exercises. Can be ordered from Deffner Publications: http://www.ernestdeffner.com

Alessandro Di Zio:
METODO PER FISARMONICA A BASSI SCIOLTI volume 1 and volume 2

Gianfelice Fugazza:
Studi per fisarmonica a bassi sciolti (terze minori e quinte).

Helmut Quakernack:
Akkordeon-Spaß mit Melodiebass

Thanks a lot guys. I'll do my best to try to find those books.

The Helmut Quakernack has no fingering numbers, there are 3 volumes.
Here are some photos of a few pages of the 3 volumes:

The Scappini and Fugazza free bass methods do have the numbers for the fingerings. Its true a method for beginners should include the numbers for fingerings, although some teachers use their own personal experience and change the ciphers.

This is a tutor for B-system accordion (standard bass + free bass pieces). There are 2 volumes
Music reader for Button accordion (Bayan). Music school 1-3. Pieces, etudes, ensembles, sonatinas and variations, polyfonical pieces. Ed. by D. Samoilov.

I ordered the Vyatcheslav Semionov B-system bayan tutor a few years ago. Good book standard bass + free bass:

I have this 200 pages (standard bass) accordion tutor:

or:
The First School of Polyphony for Bajan and Accordion. Vol. 1

«The first school of polyphony» by V. Bryzgalin is the first work written for bajan and accordion players which contains the detailed system of consecutive study of polyphony: from simple examples to a complete mastery and has no analogues among the world pedagogical-musical literature.
«The School» consists of «Young Musicians Dictionary of Polyphony» and 3 exercise-books (parts), published separately, but constituting one whole thing.
Being originally organized «The School» is therefore not only a manual which answer the repertoire requirements of schools, concerts and festivals, but is also a theoretical supply containing vast knowledge in polyphonic study.

Author(s): Bryzgalin V.
84 pages, Paperback
Published / Manufactured by: Bryzgalin-MirNot in 2001

There are many fine accordion and b-system bayan tutors, but in the texts are in Russian...

I have a pdf copy of Mogens Ellegaard's Comprehensive Method for the Chromatic Free Bass System. Due to the inefficiency of imaging, it's fairly large (9M) and the quality is just so-so, yet usable.

Send me a PM with your email address. I will send you a link to download the pdf file. I only "borrow" the location, and don't want to post it in public.
