Looking for comments and reviews for the new Korg fisa suprema digital accordion. I currently play a lovely 120 bass Borsini, but it is quite cumbersome for lugging around to festivals... Interested in the sound (non amplified)... My genre is mostly folk and Irish traditional... Thanks!

If you already played a keyboard and familiar with sound sets, I would suggest looking at a digital accordion. I think the FISA is more than you need. But if want to enhance accordion sounds with layered orchestrations, then maybe something to look into. Always a learning curve with digital accordions.

If you are mainly interested in the accordion sound, the main advantage of going digital is that the digital accordion never goes out of tune. Other things are consistent voicing, the ability to eliminate keyboard and pallet noise, the sound of having a cassotto and also no cassotto, both in the same instrument... But of course the most important deciding factor is the sound, which you may or may not like.

Though the Korg is released the first ones are JUST reaching their buyers now. I'd not be in any kind of a rush expecting reviews from "ordinary" accordionists... give it at least a month, and if you want any "truths" to come out, those usually happen about a year later after the "honeymoon phase" disappears.

Over and above that, the only review you should truly depend on is your own impressions after trying one yourself. IMHO this is too much money and too big a purchase to make based on the opinions of someone else.

I ply a Roland Fr4x which I love. Also have a Borsini that I rerely touch now ☹️
I love playing the 4x. I play it with a bk7m backing module So think one man band.
I don’t pretend that it’s a real accordion either to myself or to anyone that asks but most folk don’t care so long as what I play sounds ok😃
I think of it as an electronic keyboard that you play like an accordion. My audience sees an accordion that sounds like a band.
Everyone is happy.
I did go to a few Irish sessions at one time, got a few funny looks because it’s not a button box at first but it fit in quite well with the other instruments and the variety of sounds means you can play pretty much any part.

That’s just my experience. Personally I love it and don’t regret going Electric at all.
It’s also lighter than my Borsini and being electric, while I do have some bellows movement, mainly for dynamic volume and vibrato, I am not pumping anywhere near as much as with my Borsini which helps my old arthritic shoulders!

Those reviews are beginning to appear in Greg V’s FB group, but i guess you already know that😀

I just got one of the KORGs i ordered in the shop, I believe it is the only chromatic in the US at this time. A friend who plays chromatic is coming by to check it out so i can have a objective opinion about it. For starters it is a lot lighter than a chromatic this size would weigh.

Digital indeed tends to be lighter than an equivalent acoustic CBA... but isn't the Korg also very tall (in the playing position) compared to a chromatic with the same range of notes? I'm waiting for the "compact" version to come out and hear opinions on that.

I fired it up the Korg Chromatic today. The things I noticed at once. There is a speaker? in the bass that does a really good job of making it feel like you are feeling the reeds on the left vibrating the instrument like a real accordion would. The bellows won't move till you press a button pressing a button lets the bellows move, and pressing more buttons made it feel like it moved a bit faster but it was subtle if that was what was happening. I was generally impressed with this level of detail. A customer came in so i had to stop but I am going to sit and explore this thing. I like the little screen that shows what type of instrument you are playing (italian ,alpine).

As does the Roland FR8

Those were my initial thoughts in reading that post as well. My FR-8X does all of the above. I watched the Dale Mathis video of his first impressions. The organs were spectacular out of the box. The accordions were terrible. But that's just stock and he said he'll be making some serious changes. It will be really interesting to see how the instrument can sound from the guys like Richard Noel and Dale Mathis after they set it up the way they like it.
