Hi all

does anyone know the name of this accordionist (the man) and what country he comes from?
In fact, what style is he playing? It could be French or Portuguese or maybe a souped up Tex-Mex?

As someone says in the comments, he is a Beast :-)

I dont remember the exact title of the piece, but the man in your video link is playing a piece by the Russian bayanist Viktor Gridin
He was a bayan virtuoso

Viktor Gridin: Gypsy Rhapsody (Виктор Гридин Цыганская рапсодия , Tsiganskaya Rhapsodya )

Виктор Гридин Парафраз на тему песни Утушка луговая (Paraphrase on Utuschka Lugovaya)

Rassypucha:

Виктор Гридин Рассыпуха

The pdf sheet music of some of his bayan arrangements are here:
http://www.goldaccordion.com/noti/g

Under the letter gamma for Gridin:

¦ Гридин Виктор ¦
Веселый хоровод
Ехал казак за Дунай
Ивушка
Искристый звздопад
Медленный фокстрот
На арене
Рассыпуха
Цыганская рапсодия (Баян.Оркестр)

This one is my favorit Gridin arrangement :

Alexander Sevastian playing Kossak Variations by Victor Gridin (aka Minka Variations)

I think I remember, the piece played on the Hohner was a fragment from:
Viktor Gridin: Ozornie Naigrishi

beautiful interpretation of this piece:

Андрей Колмаков - В.Гридин Озорные наигрыши

The pdf sheet music is also online here
http://bayanac.narod.ru/index2.html
look for this version of this piece in the list:
В. Гридин. Озорные наигрыши

wow, what a great forum this is!
Thanks Stephen!

So, what style is the song? And do you think that accordionist is Russian?

The style of the piece "Ozornie Naigrishi" is like a folk tune imitation.
"Ozornie Naigrishi" something like "cheerful tunes" or "merry tunes"
The word "naigrishi" is often found in the pieces with variations on Russian folk dances and tunes.

Don't know the name of the accordionist, but his chromatic upward scale on this Hohner is played B-system or B-Griff, which is the same layout they use in Russia on bayans.
