How do I remove the glue that holds it together?

I have acquired an aPaloma accordion from 1965, whose the keys are a bit too long and get stuck against the frame. I opened it up so I could unglue the overly long keys, and reglue them in a way that would stop them from getting stuck, but I cant seem to remove the gluing material that is holding them in place. I tried with a thinner that should be able to dissolve any type of glue, being very careful to only touch the glue itself and nothing else, but the stuff doesnt give in.

Anyway, what exactly is this stuff, and how do I make it go away?

Thanks in advance.

Try to scrape it off, carefully!

I have managed to scrape off most of it on one of the keys, but theres glue inside the crevass, between the metal and the wood, so it still doesnt come apart.

I don't follow, these wouldn't have started life too long. Are these key overlays? Something has got damp & swollen? Got a pic from above?
