Hohner Amati

I'm now completely converted to CBA (taking it out with the orchestra for the first time on Sun & Mon!!!), but still play PA for the Morris. I'm starting to think about finding a buttoned-up replacement for my Hohner Student: is the Amati similar in feel & sound? There don't seem to be an awful lot of them around in the UK, unfortunately... I'll probably have to get one from Germany or Switzerland if I decide to go through with it.

Normandy would be nice, but I'd need more than 32 basses

I asked the same question on Melnet and got some replies that have confirmed my choice. Have put a bid on an Amati now; fingers crossed!

Sorry, been out of circulation for a bit - yes, someone I know plays one, nicely made little instrument with a typical warm Hohner sound. Good choice for a compact CBA at a reasonable price in my opinion, if it's in good nick etc.

I just got one! On Ricardo.ch, a Swiss auction site. I'm a little worried as the seller never replied to my question about posting to the UK... it would have been good to get a firm quote for that... but: I got one!
