Hi everyone,

I am one of the few young lads here who has recently graduated from university and chose to spend all the money on accordions. I have been trained to play classical music on a piano since 5 years old and I started to play a piano accordion few months ago. I lived in a small town in New Zealand so self-teaching is the only way to learn. I have learned a lot from this forum and later I became very addicted to playing the accordion. I managed to sell my Busilacchio 80-bass PA, and get a super new FR-3X and a 120-bass double cassotto PA within the last few months. After relocating to Hong Kong, I was getting bored by the PAs so I bought a C-system musette CBA few days ago. The CBA was such an amazing instrument and was very easy to learn. I could already play all the scales and a few pieces on my third day of practice. If I manage to play better on the CBA, my next step will be selling the PAs and get a nice free bass instrument. :D

The accordion is such a unique instrument that I think there should be more young people playing it. Unfortunately, it is extremely hard to find an accordion teacher/player in New Zealand and Hong Kong. Anyway, I will be one of the few playing it.

FYI, the guy in this video is one of the accordion teachers in Hong Kong :hb

Welcome to the forum.
You have set yourself some mighty challenges. Good luck.
Looking forward to hearing your reports and insights into learning your new instruments.

Welcome! Glad to hear you are having fun with the accordion.
My wife and I made the switch from PA to CBA about 10 years ago and we regret not having done this at least 10 years earlier! We both also dabbed our feet into free bass, which is easier if you already play CBA than when you play PA (unless you go for the rare quint convertor like Galliano plays).

Don't worry too much about not having teachers available. When you already know music you can learn a lot from your own practice and perhaps some tips from people online.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum.
I hope you'll enjoy playing the CBA.
If you take tour time, the CBA will reward all your efforts.

I have noticed the last couple of years, the growing. number of CBA beginners, switchers, converts,...

Enjoy life and music with the CBA layout!

Thanks Glenn, Paul and Stephen. There will be a lot to learn from your posts.

Welcome also from an enthusiastic Roland CBA owner.
Have you looked at the free bass settings on your 3X - several configurations on offer.

Welcome from a CBA and accordion beginner.

Just wanted to say how much downloading the sounds extensions from the Roland website increased my enjoyment of my Roland FR3 XB, also the program settings option which is an absolute boon.

Currently lusting after a Roland FR4 XB but keep telling myself that I should wait until I can play what I've got properly lol!

Happy playing <EMOJI seq="263a">☺️</EMOJI>

Thanks dunlustin and WIndstrel. FR-3x is indeed still a very versatile instrument! I am practising free bass on it.
