Up here in the high valley Easter Sunday arose in a cool, somewhat cloudy fashion. At first I wasn't sure how the day would unfold, but after early morning Mass, followed by a family Easter egg hunt on the lawns and woodland, there were hints that the sun might just break through. By early afternoon the dell was drenched in sunshine and the surrounding hills reached up to a sky as blue as forget-me-nots. I rested today and I gazed out to the gardens, that are thankfully beginning to take shape after weeks of endless strimming. I pondered on the potential merits of getting a robot mower. I often think about garden machinery, I'd could use a small tractor too - but that idea will need to go on the back burner, for now. Just beyond the edge of the garden, new lambs were bleating and frolicking in the field and having an all-round fantastic time. I moseyed for a while and stopped beside a small, white flowering tree, perhaps a Japanese Cherry Blossom or something. I noticed, down on the edge of the lawn, hidden in beside a small rhododendron bush, was a clutch of nine pheasant eggs - some light-olive and others a shade of pastel green. I was delighted at the sight and moved quietly along. Later, a most excellent Easter Sunday roast dinner, courtesy of my wife, a very talented cook - it was easily the best meal I've eaten since Christmas Day!
So, I thought I would share a rather lovely accordion video of a piece called 'April' from The Seasons by Tchaikovsky, performed by Mia Grozdanić, recorded on a windy April day. Great work Mia! Having tried recording outdoors myself, I know how the slightest gust of wind can affect the microphone, but I'm delighted Mia stuck with it and made a feature of it at times. There is an honesty to such recordings. It can be windy up here in the high valley too in April, but I am now inspired to record nonetheless!
Wishing everyone here on the Accordionists Forum a very happy and blessed Easter Sunday!
Find a "dead cat" to put on the end of the mics and it can make a surprising difference! OK no, not a real dead cat (lol)... one of these:
I need to find a couple that fit my mics for just that reason... that or shoot outside in areas that have minimal wind interference. Not needed if you have internal mics or use a digital accordion.
