Free Bass Jazz Question

Here’s a great video using polychords to create gorgeous, complex voicings on Stradella.

Diminished is really critical in jazz. How common is a diminished row on Stradella?

That really is beautiful! Thank you for the video. I cant wait to apply it to my playing.

I can't really share much other than my own experience, but the diminished row seems to be quite common, the only accordions that lack it are ones sporting the special French system.

@AccordionJustice the diminished is there on the French system too...the F7 is stacked A,C,Eb so can be used as Cdim....same rule applies across whole layout

In the USA, Jerry Cigler I would say is the preeminent free bass jazz player. He studied with Leon Sash. He uses a modified Giulietti system (Bassetti) accordion. He has what amounts to chromatic size buttons on the left hand. Took him a while to find the right folks in Italy to design it. It has a different angle as well. It still wasn't his ideal, as he wanted something where he could get better use of his thumb on the left hand.

@stickista the CJS website is indeed in Italian but you used to be able to scroll to the bottom of page and it would repeat in English, though I didn't manage yesterday...basically it cuts the triads of the stradella down by dropping to diads (if there is such a word)..so for me the most important is the dom7 becomes a tritone shell of 3rd and 7th...cut the clutter...Harry Hussey always told me he'd try and avoid playing the same notes with both hands and unfortunately the wide chords on stradella throw a lot of notes at you
@Walker if I could begin again I'd definitely have chosen B Griff as ergonomically it allows the slur from flat to natural thirds, fifths and sevenths...I sort of spotted this the first day I bought a chromatic but underestimated the importance and followed your line of thought and stuck with western tradition
On the other hand, C system allows you to do the b3->M3 move as a ‘crunch’ instead if a slide, which is a little more blues-y

Fisitalia makes their Ergo model, which has nicely angled, full sized buttons on the left side, free bass.
But list price is $20,000

Could you elaborate at your leisure and for my pleasure.... appreciated
Maybe even a little video approach/explanation....the fingering of this move has always bothered me.... I'm probably making something out of nothing...but all ideas are better than no ideas....
