My left hand does not run smoothly up and down when inside the bass strap and I noticed on youtube someone wearing a fingerless glove to help with this problem. Does this work and what is the best material for the glove ?

I seem to remember a reference to something like that on one of Cathie Travers videos, (always worthwhile anyway.) Was that where you saw it?
Shes wearing one here

I guess Australian temperatures make a difference! Its been a very mild winter here but the the heat conductive properties of metal are noticeable on the left hand when playing my Hohner Atlantic!

Maybe cutting holes in an old sock would do?!? Never tried it myself.

I think the glove for these pro types is more about protecting the skin in hour -after- hour of practice, as well as maybe sliding on the bass board.
But for us sweaty palm types I know the problem as I stick to the celluloid bass boards on a couple of mine, and my teacher has his house that warm.. anyway I had the same problem and there are a couple of solutions you might try:
a) 3M make a medical sticky on one side paper -ish gauze.. and a couple of strips (depending on the width) are hardly noticeable applied in the appropriate area, under strap and in front of the bass buttons on the bass board - is my favoured solution (you dont forget to bring it, its hardly noticeable, same feel ...and you dont feel like a DH).Think this is the one I borrowed when my uncle was in hospital... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3M-Brand-...hash=item3cfd157b71:m:m0jWWH-YOtv6QStahMybLiQ
Lasts well, too. Had mine on for two summers and still OK.
b) A fishnet glove off ebay.. cheap, changes the feel I find, but manageable .. does count on the blokes DH scale, tho: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-SHO...047417?hash=item488969a4f9:g:S~4AAOSwL7VWj5A1. . cheap, they fit either hand.. so you get a spare, too.
c) A Pigini glove, maybe same as above - much more money and higher on the DH scale: http://www.pigini.com/en/community/eshop/item/gentle caress glove

:)

I wear a fingerless fish net glove on my left hand. Really helps me with sliding from one end of the 120 bass to the other - and seems to prevent the blisters I was getting from hours of practice. The one I have is short to the wrist and ends at the knuckle of my finger, I would think even a man could wear this style as it's really not seen when my hand is the bass strap.

I sometimes wear a sweatband on my wrist, same as the tennis players. Cheap and easy to get hold of. If it's too bulky you can pick apart the stitching and have a single thickness.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I have ordered the tape as suggested by Soulsaver.

Cheers

Please let us know how it goes for you. I recommend going go for the least disruptive solution first, and if it's also the cheapest even better. The irony is I tried several other 'solutions' without realising I already had the tape in my medical stash!

The 3M tape as suggested by Soulsaver has arrived and is now in place. While not not a miracle cure has certainly helped with the bass problem. Highly recommended. Thanks Soulsaver !

Good it helped - I guess it'll depend on the persons hand (we're all different) and the weather. maybe a bit more of a test in the summer... thanks for coming back on it.
