Cows are often very curious. When I walk a llama or take horses around our property those across the fence on one corner sometimes come to visit. I’ll have to try playing the harmonica or trumpet down there and see if they respond.
I have a vague recollection of some poem in Ted Hughes' "Birthday Letters" with a scene where Sylvia Plath was reciting Beowulf at the top of her lung with cows crowding around her and listening. Cannot vouch for the accuracy of my memory here, but it certainly suggests that some cows have eclectic tastes.
They seem to be moo-ved by anything unusual. Another farmer once sent me a photo from the back of a young lady standing by a road just outside a cow pasture fence. She appeared to be lifting up the front of her shirt. A bunch of cows were crowded close to the other side of the fence, staring. No bull.
Who knows what goes on in the bovine brain. What art and music might they like? What poetry would they write?
