I am considering a new budget 34/72 accordion and have the choice of Scarlatti or Chanson. Which of these has the best sounding reeds. Thank you all for so much advice that I have received. Clifford CJ

Both are Chinese rubbish. They have rubbish mechanics and rubbish reeds. Both are cheap... you get what you pay for.

I'm interested to know why you opt for these brands?
Would you consider a more mainstream choice?
For example, a used Hohner should cost about the same. The brand is solid especially for older models and you would have a very good chance of selling on in the future - probably not true for your current choices.
By the way, Black Diamond ( no connection ) have a 3 voice 72 bass for £799 - they have a very reasonable rep from what I have read.
I also think they do ( or did ) buy on approval.

Thank you but buying new from Allodi accordions would include a three year guarantee and thorough pre sale check. A good trade in has been indicated for my Scarlatti 30/48. I had seen that Hobgoblin have stated good improvements to Scarlatti reeds. However I will also check with Allodi if they can recommend a s.h. Hohner thank you again CJ

Recent lower end Hohner accordions are also made in China. They are of a proven design but alas the Chinese materials used (especially springs) are rubbish compared to the old German equivalents.
