Does anyone know if the Bugari-Evo is still being manufactured?
Also, I have seen some videos of Jerry Nicolato playing a Roland FR8X using a Ketron SD90. Has anyone played a Bugari-Evo using a Ketron SD90 and if so what is their impressions having done so?

That's because there is a separate site for the Evo:

bugarievo.com

But if you go there, you will find a poorly-maintained website. In the USA, Petosa is the sole distributor of these instruments. Their website may not indicate if the Evo is still in production or not, but if you call there, they will give you a straight answer.

There is a lot of confusion but let me simplify. The EVO is based off a lot of the FR-8X parts. The FR-8X is no longer being made, hasn't for at least the last 1-2 years or more. Without an 8X, there is no EVO. Petosa may have some stock they want to sell off as new (of course) but there are no more new Bugari EVOs being made.

I would say "buyer Beware".................................

Fr8x is not being made???? So the "new" ones being sold are all made 1 - 2 years ago? How about the 1x and 4x?

Not sure Tom... about 2 years ago, I found info online from someone that worked at Roland that mentioned that all R&D was stopped about 2 years back (4 years total as of the time I am posting this) and they have no intentions of advancing V-accordions.

It seemed that the only real person of power that wanted the V-Accordion was Ikutaro Kakehashi and when he passed away in April of 2017, they relased 1-2 8X updates and them promptly fell silent.

Thanks Jerry! So maybe there is a factory, somewhere, that's still turning them out, or there is a big warehouse full of "new" v accordions.

Maybe, like the cordovox phoenix, they will dissappear from "new" status, languish for a while, then come back as higher priced collector items. Better buy up a couple hundred and get ready for the big payoff!!!! Just like I should have bought a couple hundred houses before the big Airbnb craze. It's a battle!

I contacted Roland directly today and they still are currently manufacturing the FR8X.
This does not help any of us that have the Bugari-Evo's concerning when it comes to replacement parts.

Can anyone address my original question if they have a Evo and have they used it with a Keytron SD90 sound modual and any comments regarding likes and dislikes.

Hi John, this contradicts what a Roland Japan employee said publicly years ago. Who did you speak to? Roland is not even providing parts to Roland suppliers world-wide now for the 8X... if they were, those people with issues would be able to get some help.

Best people to ask are the people over on the SD-90 facebook group. I know there are some 8X users and at least 1 EVO user in that group. That said, the SD-90 is an arranger (albeit a very expensive one), and it works on the EVO in the exact same way any other arranger would. As for specific about the SD-90, I doubt there is 1 user here that has made their presence known.

Thanks Jerry so much for your response. i sent a text to Roland's product support department and they sent me a response yesterday that the FR8X is still being manufactured so not sure or not what to believe. I do have a posting on the SD90 site about using it with the EVO but no responses. Over the years, I have gotten burnt with getting parts for the I Orio and Scandalli EWA accordions with buying them new and then in a couple of years and they are no longer mfg. Now, here we go again with the Bugari-Evo, not being manufactured and no product support. I probably should have just bought a new midi accordion without sounds and a separate sound module.. I guess time will tell. I still have a Ketton X4 module.

That is the nature of our game, no electronics last forever. A few years ago the owner of the company that created the EVO publicly claimed bankruptcy/closing and then a few months later opened up under another banner. *That* line of accordions was kind of promised around 2019-2020, but COVID put a plug in that one... and today, coming up to3 years later, there are no new developments other than the posts/videos made.

Petosa became the only place in North America to sell and service the EVO. I don't know how they can service them unless they bought out some spares or are cannibalizing other accordions for parts.

As far as Ketron, at least they have been around a long time and seem dependable. I also own an X4 and it works 100% to this day. Not bad for being "alive" for 20+ years. Our choices in the world of digital accordions is really limited and it's too bad that there is nothing out there that can do what the 8X does... it many be tiny, but I feel that there is a market out there for it.

Concerning the SD-90, there was an earlier issue with it on the 8X, but I believe they addressed it. As for how it would run on the EVO, it is so close in that respect to the FR-8X that talking to those people the experience would have to be pretty much identical, and I would have to say in terms of effectiveness, the same as the X4, just with all the added bells and whistles that it has. Basically... MIDI is MIDI. :)

Hey Jerry,
I happen to be speaking with Joe Petosa Sr. today on another product and during our conversation, he informed me that the Bugari-EVO is still being manufactured and he is waiting for several shipments of them. The problem is like everyone else in the industry they are having problems getting parts to make the new accordions which of course is affecting pricing and also obtaining any replacement parts for repairs as to existing models as well. Therefore, it has been very difficult to quote a delivery date for any new orders.

Now, that may be true, but I'm kinda leary of that answer.

The Covid-based shortages are pretty much over. Electronic parts are in no short supply any longer. A good indication is car lots and video cards.

During the pandemic, you could not get a video card to save your life, today I can place an order for 20 Invidia 4090TI Founder Edition cards and get them shipped overnight and on top of that, for well under 1/2 the cost of the previous gen cards.

I also cannot speak for all car dealers, but I live close to one of Canada's larger GM dealerships... 300 new cars on the lot and car carriers coming 2 times a week and this time last year all they had were 15-20 used cars on the lot.

If there is a shortage of EVOs, it's not likely due to parts, but simply items not being made anymore and if I was the sole EVO dealer in North America, it would be very bad business to tell people that they are selling a product that's not being made anymore. One thing is undisputable, the man that started the EVO company (Marco Cinaglia) is no longer involved with the EVO in any way, he's out there looking to make his new smaller digital accordions.

There was a video leaked to YouTube about 4-5 years ago about the FR-9X. That conveniently disappeared about a week later. Since that time there has been no news of a 9X and no hint of R&D progress and no firmware updates or changes since November 2019. For an electronic device to be on the market for 10 years in today's market is unheard of... and yet, the 8X is just that... 10 years old, as it came out in March or April of 2013.

I'd love to be wrong, I'd be first in line for a 9X if it was done right. :)
