Has anyone used these to have repairs done to their accordions? Good or bad experiences? I'd rather take it to a repairer that someone could recommend.
I had a provisional chat with B.A.C. and would feel happy to use them based on this, someone I know of that has had work done there, and general things I've seen/heard in chats.
I have had considerable experience dealing with Rob at Birmingham Accordion Centre over the years and (although I haven’t spoken to him for some years now) I always found him pleasant and easy to deal with. And he knows his business; he’s been repairing free reed instruments for a lot of years. I also know he has done (and probably still does) work for a well-known local music shop, which has outlets throughout the country.
This may sound like I’m singing his praises but remember this is a personal experience and others experiences may be different.
I've had good experiences with the Birmingham Accordion Centre. He has shown me at times how he does different parts of the repairs and as far as I can judge what he is doing ties in with what other respected tuners will do. He's done what he has said at a price that I thought was fair. He is often busy as he gets work in from quite a wide area and from some other instrument sellers so it is worth pinning down the timings, especially if you need the box back quickly then make sure he knows that. He does electronic and midi work and although part of his work involves bringing cheaper boxes up to a reasonable playing standard, he does higher end stuff as well. I don't have the experience of other repairers to compare, but I have had good experiences with the Birmingham Accordion Centre personally.
