An accordion survey

Hi folks!

I have an accordion survey for all you and I hope many answers. Im in a handcraft mastership education and one main element in the education is service design, and this survey is used to collect data for further study. Im interested what kind of accordions people are using around the world. The survey is fast to do. Feel free to share the link to your friends, too. Survey is open one month. (And why accordions? Well, Im having my small workshop in Naantali, Finland. So I might be kept as a accordion freak )

So far I've got 118 answers. That is very well in short time. Most answers from USA, UK, Finland and Canada. Answers are from over 30 countries. Keep it coming - and remember tell about this to your friend, too. It would be nice to have as many answers as possible for detailed analysis.

Then he'd better expand the number of places other accordionists can see his survey. Though an incredible place, we here are in the hundreds in terms of active and semi-active members and far short of that goal. Also there is the "sorry, don't feel like participating" factor which in some cases can go as high as 30-50 percent.

Surveys are good, but they don't have their intended value if you cannot get the people you want to target, to participate. You get what you get and then do what you can with the numbers.

Sure there is needed huge amount of answers to have valid result. That is true. But I can say that even the small amount of answers gives hint what kind of instruments are used. If willing to do a good survey, it should be in many languages. Using only one language marks out huge amount of players.

The survey it is not all about what instrument you are playing. There is also question what kind of people are playing (age, gender, what kind of music they are listening etc.) accordions. As I have said in the survey, my school work is about service design. This is just background data for that. All answers are still valuable for me

I wish you well with your endeavour, but feel obliged to point out one or two barriers to success.

This site has recently been subjected to a cyber attack, so members may be a little worried about opening links such as yours. This is the main reason I have avoided opening it, and I'm sure that others have had similar concerns.

In addition to this, many members of this forum are naturally conservative, and are therefore unlikely to conform to the wishes of someone they don't know.

I am sure that you are an honest and decent person, and I hope that you will understand the reluctance of our members in this matter.

Oo, I see, Stephen. Unfortunate that there has been a cyber attack. Good to know.

As I have said, I've put messages to many different forums / pages and I've got now slightly under 200 answers. This is not the only forum from where I am trying to get people to answer to the survey. (You know, never play with one card only). Here, in Finland, the accordion seems to be one type of instrument in one or two type of music genres. With answers I've got so far, I can say that my point of view to accordion music have expanded. I do thank all those who have answered to the survey.

Let's have a look the last 2 weeks of the survey. And no worry, I won't spam here. Perhaps I'll put one reminder and answering to this topic posts.

Okay, you got me! We are not really all that conservative, except when it comes to divulging information to people we don't know.

This is especially true when it comes to filling in forms, which most people find unbearably tiresome.

Though not myself technically savvy, I felt that opening the form may have posed some threat to the site. That was my main reason for not wishing to participate.

I'm (fairly) sure that this request is legitimate, but I will not do anything which could be detrimental to the security of this site. Perhaps we may receive some guidance from the Moderators on this matter.

I clicked on the link and answered all the questions - none of which were of an excessively personal or financial nature! It seems to be quite safe.

I have attempted to complete your survey, but am unable to progress beyond the age/country section. Every time I try to scroll down beyond the ages of 41/45, the damned thing just packs in. Exactly the same thing happens when I try to scroll down through the countries.

Let me know when you have fixed it, and I may have another go at it.

Stephen, I am sorry, but I cannot fix this issue. This survey is made with Google and only Google can fix their systems (if the fault is on their side). However, quite often it is so that if having the newest browsers, everything should work fine. But you could try few tricks: can you use arrows to get down within the list? Works on my computer. And I can also use keyboard for fast finding when the age list is shown: pressing 4, goes on line which starts with number 4. Press 6, you go to line 61-65 and if pressing fast 65, it goes to line 65+. I hope these hints would work for you.

Sorry, I have managed to get the 65+ bit, but cannot get to the country I live in.

Accordions Owned: Hohner Arietta IV M 120/41 ............. Chanson 72/34 ......... Galotta 12 Bass.

Musical Genres: 40's ... 50's .... 60's popular music and English Folk Music.
