Hi Guys!

I'm pretty new to the world of Accordions. A month or so ago my Accordion begun making a constant noise when the reeds were being used. This vanished but has recently came back. I'm unable to play without a horrible noise in the background when the reeds are being used. Can anyone give me some advise to what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Kind Regards

Sean

May need servicing, best get someone to have a look at it.

Can you describe the noise in more detail, please?

Is the noise produced when playing the bass or the treble or both?

Horrible noise starts when the reeds in your accordion are used?
Have you ruled out next door neighbours?

"Horrible noise starts when the reeds in your accordion are used?"

That's what my wife has been telling me....

It also happens when the strings on my guitar are used!

If it sounds like Tesco's refrigerators, thats a major overhaul and could be expensive.

This is a genuine post!

The noise is when using the bass buttons. Even using the release button it also makes the noise. I'd rather try fixing it myself before getting it serviced if possible, this happened before but as I said earlier but it seemed to stop by itself, its really irritating.

OK Plainzer. We need a bit more info. What does it sound like. Where is the noise coming from? How old is your accordion and what make is it?

And does it make the noise with no keys or buttons pressed? Is the horrible noise 'note(s)' or a fart?

I'm not trying to be harsh, but we are going around in a circle. Without more concrete details, we will be just wasting electrons and going around in a circle.

OP, this is just like you call your garage shop and say, "My car makes noise whenever I turn the ignition key." No auto mechanic can tell you what's wrong what's right with your car.

The noise happens even when no buttons or keys are pressed. Its a high pitched ringing sound. It's coming from where the bass buttons are, at the top end.

Thanks!

There you go then... sorted.... tinnitus  ;)

Can you close the bellows when no buttons or keys are being depressed?

I wonder if the noise is air escaping from the Air Valve at the top of the bass buttons side . In other words a leaky valve.

Or leaky bellows?

Just a thought

Thanks for the help so far!

Yes I can open and close the bellows without pushing buttons, this is when this noise happens. It sounds like it is coming from the holes located behind the bass buttons. Do you think I can repair the problem myself?

You have a bass pallet that is not seating properly. There are a few things that will cause this - but let's start here. Are any of your bass buttons bent or not in an upright position??? And very important -- WHAT MAKE AND MODEL IS IT ?????

Thank you kindly good sir!

I checked to see if all the bass buttons were working before but I must have missed it, I found a bass button making a not so healthy noise, after pressing it a few times it fixed itself and the unwanted noise has vanished!

Thanks guys, all your help was much appreciated :)

I opened up a melodeon last night where one of the bass pallets was getting caught on top of another pallet - all that had happened was the rod that is supposed to be the pivot point for all of the levers had slid out of place for the end one. Once the rod was put back into place, it functioned as it should!

It sounds to me like you haven't actually looked inside yet, and are just poking all the buttons from the outside meaning the problem has only been temporarily solved — until the button is pressed once more.
So, if you haven't already: take the cover off the bass end to reveal the workings of the bass buttons. Press the problem button and see what is getting caught on what.
With that information, you should be able to deduce and solve the problem yourself :)

OK plainzer0 good to know it is fixed but for future reference, there are some amazing and helpful people on this forum but if you can't give basic info like make and model, it is really difficult to help you. If you have a problem in the future, try to give as much info as you can. That was you will gain max benefit!
