I have just bought an incomplete P.A. as another winter project!!!
Can anyone suggest a source for second hand spares?
The new Hohner spare parts would cost ten times the purchase price of my project.
Garth

it all depends on what model your incomplete one is and what you need to put it right. Some parts eg reeds, valves, straps, are fairly interchangeable between makes and models whereas bellows, casing or part thereof tend to be make and model specific.

If you post info on make and model and what you are short of suitable advice may be forthcoming!

Hi George, thanks for your reply.
I started another thread showing it was a Hohner Atlantic I had bought but I didn't mention it here because this topic could be relevant to many different accordions.
The universal parts you mentioned are often covered both on this forum and our favourite on-line auction site, but I was more interested in the 'model specific' parts.
I have attempted repairs to Ebay rejects in the past and have failed more than once. Every so often I have a clear-out and these projects go to the skip (my conscience will not let me resell them).
I have often thought that someone somewhere could have used parts but I don't know how to reach them.
p.s. This is just a hobby for me, not a business.

I dont know of any 2nd hand part dealers per se, you could try ringing round repairers.

Hi Garth: Trying to revive a DOA used Hohner will be a good lesson in accordion repair but to get it playable will be expense and time consuming. I must really respect your initiative and your endeavor, but please don't expect any rewarding results. Rebuilding a quality made model accordion will most times be rewarding and profitable, but I'm afraid this one just might will be like flogging a dead horse. If you can post some pic's I'll be glad to help.

I dont imagine you were skipping accordions, Garth, but, FTAOD, if you are thinking that way please inform us on here - Ive needed parts before that Id have been glad to get 2nd hand and help salvage a DOA, as JimmyD calls em.

I did suggest this but Im aware that spares are probably more valuable to a repairer than selling them.. but being a pragmatist, Id still ask... and you never know..

It doesn't cost anything to ask. The parts are out there somewhere - it's just a matter of finding someone that will part with them for the right price. Start with a Hohner dealer that has been in the business of selling and repair - they most always have spares.

Charlie Marshall is always worth asking, he has some spares for older Hohner models.
I myself have a very few Hohner Atlantic parts.
