Hello! I am currently working on my morino VI. I started out by removing the switches in front of the keyboard because i dont use them and they got stuck in certain cloths. Then I got the idea to remove the whole mechanism under the cover behind the keyboard to reduce the weight and it did. Now I am thinking of removing the alluminium cover that all morinos have and to replace it with a backpad. That will reduce the weight quite alot I think.
Question is, I am looking for something that accordions have that have a masterpalmswitch to attach the backpad on. Looks like this:

any idea whats that called and where to buy it?

I have the Morino Artiste X which is the CBA equivalent to the Morino VI. I also didnt like the slider switches behind the keyboard and I also missed a backpad. First of all you should keep all the parts in case you sell the instrument on and the new owner wants the mechanism reinstalled. When you get into tinkering... I left the mechanism inside but altered it to fit (4) chin switches. Your Morino probably already has one chin switch, which means that you can (after changing the top to a smaller button) actually have 5 chin switches. (My Artiste X does not have that master chin switch so its mechanism is a bit different.) It is all a bit fiddly and the register mechanism on these old Hohners isnt the smoothest (and misses a latch to keep the register slides in locked position, which all modern accordions have).
For the backpad I asked my wife to make me one, and I installed it with some snap-on buttons on the cover behind the keyboard. That aluminum cover is actually pretty light so there is little weight to be saved by trying to replace it by something else.
